Waltrip was controversial and outspoken for much of his driving career. Cale Yarborough, who engaged in several fierce on-track battles and off-track verbal exchanges with DW, gave Waltrip one of the sport’s all-time best nicknames: Jaws.
Waltrip put his motor where his mouth was, winning three Cup championships (1981, ’82 and ’85) and 84 Cup races. He was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2012 (a bit late, he might tell you privately).
