“Minimum wages reduce employment opportunities for less-skilled workers, especially those who are most directly affected by the minimum wage,” wrote economists David Neumark of the University of California-Irvine and William Wascher, a member of the Board of Governors for the Federal Reserve System. In their book, Minimum Wages, which is based on nearly two decades of their own extensive research and dozens of other studies on the topic, they conclude that minimum wage increases “do not, on net, reduce poverty or otherwise help low income families.”
