Who is Richard Reed?

Richard Reed is the best-known face of Innocent Drinks, who with two friends made smoothies into a multimillion pound business.

Born in Kirkheaton, West Yorkshire, Reed went on to study geography at St John’s College at Cambridge University.

He took a job in advertising for four years before starting up a smoothie and drinks company with fellow Cambridge graduates Adam Balon and Jon Right in 1998.

The three friends came up with the idea on a hangover, when few naturally made smoothie products were on sale.

They called their creation Innocent Drinks – and sold their wares from a market stall, emailing around potential investors with the subject heading: “Do you know anyone rich?”

But the gamble paid off, and their well-marketed fruit smoothies and vegetable pots became the most successful brand of its kind in Europe.

The business is also well-known for donating ten per cent of all profits to charity – a factor which apparently attracted their buyers Coca-Cola.

In 2013, they sold Innocent Drinks to the soft drinks giant for an undisclosed sum, when the business was valued at $500million.

He’s been busy since the sale too – as the founder of art fund Art Everywhere and co-founder of the Innocent Foundation, as well as JamJar investments.

Reed has also written a book: If I could Tell You Just One Thing…Encounters with Remarkable People and Their Most Valuable Advice, published with Canongate in 2016.

In the same year, he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to the food industry and to charity.

How old is the Innocent Drinks co-founder and what’s his net worth?

Born on February 14, 1973, Reed is 45 years old.

As of 2016, the entrepreneur’s net worth was estimated at £50million.
