We’re heading back to the Isla Nublar as Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom fires up a viral site for the upcoming movie.
Giving more bite to the franchise that started back in 1993, J.A. Bayona is taking over from Colin Trevorrow following 2015’s Jurassic World. Trevorrow reinvented the series after the lackluster Jurassic Park III, but the latest movie looks set to push the envelope further. Combining the old and the new, Fallen Kindom sees the long-awaited return of Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm, but who else is going head-to-toe with the extinct experiments?
A viral site for the Dinosaur Protection Group has stirred with activity and now offers some handy character bios for the newcomers and returning cast members alike. Interestingly, fans can get a better idea about who Daniella Pineda and Justice Smith will be playing in their first Jurassic movie. The site has some bios on the DPG’s employees, which you can read below.
Zia Rodriguez (Pineda):
“Zia Rodriguez trained in pre-veterinary medicine at Berkeley before the park incident put on hold her dream of accepting an internship at Jurassic World. Now Zia is one of DPG’s strongest advocates and our resident expert on dinosaur biology. Once the DPG fulfills its goal, she wishes to achieve her dream of mending our giant neighbors.”
Franklin Webb (Smith):
“Having previously worked at Jurassic World as an IT technician, Franklin Webb now operates the DPG’s social media and online marketing campaigns. As his surname comically suggests, Franklin is an expert on all things to do with computers and the internet. This makes him an important asset to the DPG’s reach around the globe.”
It is great to add some fresh meat to the franchise, however, Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing is once again the focus of the movie. Dearing can be spotted on the site visiting various schools as part of outreach programs about dinos. It appears since her time running away from T-Rexes in heels, Claire has been flying the flag for dinosaur conservation. This shows that Fallen Kingdom will have something fo a U-turn for Claire, who appears to have gone from corporate drone to animal activist. Finally, the site hones in on the volcanic Mt. Sibo, which is the whole reason that the doomed humans return to the abandoned park.
The various trailers have already teased it is Claire who persuades Chris Pratt’s Owen to return to the island in hopes of saving the surviving dinos. However, as with all the Jurassic movies, it is never is as simple as a scenic tour around the lush greenery of Costa Rica. Alongside fireballs raining from the sky, Claire, Owen, Zia, and Franklin will be dealing with escaped carnivores and a brand new hybrid dinosaur that looks set to compete with the Indominus Rex of 2015’s movie.
The latest Super Bowl trailer gave us a closer look at the monster menace, but fans will have to wait and see how it compares to the raptors and rexes that we have come to love and fear over the years. While the Dinosaur Protection Group may have good intentions, we don’t expect it will be long before their numbers are greatly reduced during a disastrous rescue mission to Isla Nublar. Recent projects like Westworld and Cloverfield have made effective use of viral marketing, and Bayona’s movie is looking to join the trend. Hopefully, just like the dormant volcano that seems to be the biggest threat this time around, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will erupt into the box office when it hits theaters this summer.
