Messages of love and support were shared on social media on Wednesday as part of International Day Again Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.
Celebrated on May 17—the day the World Health Organization declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder in 1990—IDAHOT aims to draw attention to the fact that “the rights of LGBT people around the world remain under attack” around the world, according to the Council for Global Equality.
“The Day represents an annual landmark to draw the attention of decision makers, the media, the public, opinion leaders and local authorities to the alarming situation faced by lesbian, gay, bisexuals, transgender and intersex people and all those who do not conform to majority sexual and gender norms,” according to the IDAHOT website. It is celebrated by millions of people across the globe who stand up for human rights for all.
