A knowledge base is a collection of structured and unstructured data that can be used for various purposes depending on the requirements. Knowledge bases are as old as the computer industry itself and the original knowledge bases were more literal of the term. The original knowledge bases were essentially knowledge ‘stores’ and were different from a database. They used to contain rules and facts, the computing system would abide by when making calculations.
With the dawn of the internet, the definition of knowledge bases evolved to what it is today. A modern knowledge base is simply a collection of information that acts as a self-serve library about products, services, or topics.
