KITCHENER — Actor and comedian Kumail Nanjiani has been added to a high-profile list of keynote speakers appearing at the True North tech conference in May.

Nanjiani and his wife, Emily V. Gordon, received Oscar nominations for their screenplay for the hit film The Big Sick; Nanjiani also starred in the movie. He’s also known for his role as programmer Dinesh in the Emmy Award-winning HBO comedy series Silicon Valley.

Nanjiani joins a guest list that includes Pixar co-founder Ed Catmull, Affectiva chief executive officer Rana el Kaliouby, and journalist and entrepreneur Sarah Lacy. Other speakers include Siyabulela Xuza, founder and managing director of Galactic Energy Ventures, Talia Sanhewe, managing director of Talia Productions, BuzzFeed News media editor Craig Silverman, Linamar Corporation chief executive Linda Hasenfratz, and Kik founder Ted Livingston.

The conference, presented by Communitech, takes place May 29 to 31. Organizers bill the event as a chance to reconsider tech’s purpose, to imagine and reimagine the impact of technology on everyone, and to examine the values that guide tech innovation.

Many of the events will be held at the Lot42 event complex in Kitchener. Visit www.truenorthwaterloo.com for more information.
